German Band Artig rocks the German School

Artig at the German School/GLC in Potomac

After their great success in 2012 and 2011, the German band ARTIG is once again bringing German Pop Rock to High Schools to several US States this fall. Their first performance was tonight at the German School/German Language Courses in Potomac, MD. More than 100 kids and their parents celebrated the four young men from Germany.

More performances will take place in Maryland, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

Max, Chris, Dave and Marten have been making music together since 2004. Their recipe for success: classic pop elements, fast rock and indie guitar riffs combined with lyrics teenagers can relate to. The songs of the four young men, all in their mid-twenties, tell stories about the ups and down of a teenagers life, but they also deal with international news events.

“Performing in the US is great”, says lead singer Max; “the students are energized and excited to learn our German songs. It is not only a highlight for all our fans but for us as well.”

ARTIG, which in German means “well behaved”, has been collecting prizes in Germany, and was named best student band in 2010/2011. They offer more than just music: The band engages with students, teaching German along the way. The musicians visit classrooms and work together with teachers and German cultural institutes to make learning a language fun and entertaining.

The 2014 US tour will be documented extensively on Twitter.

Kerstin Hopkins, Principal of the German Language School Washington, DC, and US Tour manager for ARTIG, stresses that “this is a wonderful way to promote German in the United States.” She describes working with all the band members as “a true pleasure”: “They are professional and easy to work with. They have a great impact with their German lyrics on all our German language learners.”
